Kenya Resource Sharing, power play and #biblical perspective

#Kenya Resource Sharing, power play and #biblical perspective

Do #Kenyans really know what is at stake with all this struggle for power? If you can answer what belong to a county and what belongs to the Nation then we will start to understand the stakes in the game.

Right now we think we have oil in Turkana, but in real sense we have already consumed it by debt. In future people of the area will see the oil being mined and sold and they get nothing in return and they will start asking Q that they should have asked years ago.

What are the stakes in Kenya. What belongs to a community that they can be able to exercise their community autonomous and sovereignty as community and where does that start and end?

Does the resources collected in #Nairobi for example belong to Nairobian alone? or do they belong to the whole country? If Yes and No; then what belongs to Nairobian and what belongs to the Country. This same questions are being asked currently as we strive to form the East African Community. That is the truth of the matter.

The fight for power between #Uhuru and #Raila is a fight of resources. For proper understanding check the history of Saudi Arabian oil. The process of getting the oil from the ground to the consumers involves a lot of capital. The government enters into business before even the oil is out of the ground. By the time it is mined, processed and sold, the government has already consumed its share, so what of the community shares?

And the same applies for all resources. Coffee and tea for instance, farmers farm but much of the money got from the proceeding goes to debt payment that were accrued during the value addition of the farm produce.

Now having said that --- I go back to history – Kenya has a country till recent previous years (before devolution) has been built by farm produces whichever corner of the country you stay in and there were communities that did most of the work of producing the products that built the country till now (Before devolution) without complaining that because the worked harder than the rest, then they should get bigger shares.

Devolution kicks in and counties minds are opened to how much they contribute Vis-à-vis what the national government gives back.

Now enters the county custodians and power play to control resources begins. For “counties” that have painstakingly supported the rest till now they can be able to stand on their own won’t take kindly to counties that what their resources to be theirs and theirs alone.

Resources are needed for a few days because of production time, or a few months due to seasonal business, or a half year due to a growing season, or for several years for new product development and launch, or for decades to build a factory or buy a house, or for most of a life time for retirement savings. In a world where people’s needs, opportunities, and available resources vary over time, finance is the primary means of matching resources to needs across time.

Human beings are created to be social and to live in community, and we have a desire to be with other people. As God put it, “It is not good that the man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). Moreover, we are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27; 2 Corinthians 3:8), and the Holy Trinity existing in perfect unity is a model of community for us (Galatians 4:1-7). As a form of resource sharing among people, finance is inherently a social activity. By creating us as social beings, God laid the foundation for the exchange of resources, of which finance is a crucial form.
