SHOES

Since I was born, I have worn many shoes,
some cheap, other expensive,
others I took good care of them but they still got old,
others I didn't mind if they r clean or not and they are still with me,
I have worn plastic, leather, wood, canvas, rubber,

Some were open others closed, laced and those without --

In All of them I would pick them up regardless of where they stepped
And I would dust them and wear them again,
Some I would polish, or brush, wash, and sometimes others would require soaking
What mattered is at some time in live,
I worn them

Some were torn on the upside
Others on the downside
Yet others on the sides
Others the sole became oboslute
What mattered is at some time in live,
I worn them

Some I took to the cobbler
Cause I loved them,
He repaired them and they were good again
And I worn them yet again
What mattered is at some time in live,
I worn them

Some, torn beyond repair
I threw them into the dustbin
For someone to help himself with
What mattered is at some time in live,
I worn them

Like shoes, I have made mistakes
Had lot of sorrows and lost
Yet God keep picking me up
Dusting me off and sending me on my way again

Like shoes there have been friends in my live
All type of friends that God brought my way.
I strived to norish, protect and water the friendship
But time and I again I have lost many
What mattered is at some time in live,
They were my friends

The Qualifications and Blessings of Priesthood ------- Prt 2

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. A priest must have a clean heart to approach the presence of God and so that we can enlighten sinners with the Gospel. David prayed in (Psalms 51:10-13 NKJV)  Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. {11} Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. {12} Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. {13} Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.
A priest must have a clean heart to get revelations from God and about God. Holiness allows us to see God. (Hebrews 12:14 NIV)  Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
Having a clean heart before God gives us confidence and faith to receive the promises of God from His Word. (1 John 3:21-23 NKJV)  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. {22} And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. {23} And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. A peacemaker is one who reconciles people. A priest is a peacemaker that reconciles people to God. The Bible says that when we are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ then we are given the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NKJV)  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. {18} Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, {19} that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. {20} Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. {21} For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
As priests we also pursue peace between people. (Romans 14:17-19 NIV) For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, {18} because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. {19} Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
We are to use our God given authority in Jesus name, and our access into the throne room, to bring the Holy Spirit into every relationship that we are concerned about, man to man, and man to God relationships. (Colossians 3:12-15 NIV)  Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. {13} Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. {14} And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. {15} Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
When we bring the Spirit of compassion, the Holy Spirit, into a situation then we also bring all the fruits of the Holy Spirit to the people also. (Galatians 5:22-25 NIV)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, {23} gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. {24} Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. {25} Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Compassion contains all of the fruits of the Spirit.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:11-12 NIV)  "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. {12} Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Persecution is how you know that you have arrived into the Kingdom. (2 Timothy 3:12 NKJV)  Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. The good news is (Psalms 34:19 NKJV)  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

The Qualifications and Blessings of Priesthood ---- Prt 1

I believe that what we call the beatitudes that Jesus gave at the Sermon on the Mount are the qualifications and blessings of priesthood in the Kingdom of God. Immediately following the beatitudes Jesus spoke that we are salt and light in reaching the lost world. Salt is for taste and light is to see, I believe that as we operate in the beatitudes as priest reaching the lost world people will taste and see that the Lord is good.

(Matthew 5:3-12 NKJV)  "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. {4} Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. {5} Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. {6} Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. {7} Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. {8} Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. {9} Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. {10} Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. {11} "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. {12} "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Blessed are the poor in Spirit, For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. The phrase poor in Spirit carries with it the connotation of a spiritual beggar. The Spirit gives life and is life. We must crave the Holy Spirit like we crave oxygen, continuously asking God to fill us with the Spirit. (Luke 11:13 NKJV)  "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Children of the Kingdom recognize that the presence of the Holy Spirit gives us everything we want such as love, peace, and joy. The Holy Spirit also frees us from everything we don't want, such as bad emotions, sin, and even temptation; for where the Spirit is there is freedom. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives causes us to produce spiritual fruit, guides us into all truth.
As royal priest of the Kingdom we must be guided by the Holy Spirit in fulfilling the great commission to bring the gospel to the lost world. To be effective in bringing people into the Kingdom we must be led by the Spirit; led where to go, when to go, what to speak, and who to speak to. Who, what, where, how, and when come together into destiny when one is led by the Spirit. (Romans 8:14 NKJV) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Gifts of the Spirit are manifested in the priest life to strengthen the believer, and to convince the unbeliever. The Holy Spirit flows through us in the form of a river of compassion seeking to bring people into the Kingdom, and to strengthen our brothers and sisters that are in the Kingdom.

Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Christians mourn because of our spiritual failures, and also for the lost souls that we have compassion for. The prophet Samuel mourned for Saul when God rejected Saul from being king. (1Samuel 15:35 KJV)  And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel. Feeling the pain and suffering of others is a part of being compassionate. Jesus gives us comfort through the Holy Spirit, which is the oil of joy.
(Isaiah 61:1-6 NKJV)  "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; {2} To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, {3} To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified." {4} And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. {5} Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. {6} But you shall be named the priests of the LORD, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast.

Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. (Galatians 6:1-2 KJV)  Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. {2} Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Meekness is a requirement of the priesthood, the Spirit of meekness is the Holy Spirit. Meekness is not weakness, meekness is Spirit controlled strength. Meekness is the strength of humility, which is submission to God's will rather than our own selfish interest. Meekness is not using your strength, or position, or authority, or knowledge, to force your own will, or your revenge against someone else. Meekness is submitting all these things under the control and guidance of the Holy Spirit. The meek shall inherit the earth not by might nor by power but by being led of the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says that Moses was the meekest man on the earth and an example is given in Numbers 12 1-13. Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. Moses did not answer them, he did not use his position or authority against them he just humbled himself. Instantly the Lord called all three of them out to speak to them and the Lord's anger burned against Miriam and Aaron for speaking against Moses. When the Lord departed Miriam was covered with leprosy. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy; and he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed. Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb with its flesh half eaten away." So Moses cried out to the LORD, "O God, please heal her!"
Moses interceded for the ones who had spoken against him. This is meekness, not weakness, and it is being led by the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 5:44-45 NKJV)  "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, {45} "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. We are made righteous by the atonement that Jesus provided for us, and we live a righteous life by being led by the Spirit. (Galatians 5:16 NIV)  So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. In the Old Testament the priest would make atonement for himself first then his household and then the congregation. As royal priest of the new covenant we also must be righteous, that is clean before God so that we can intercede for others. (Leviticus 16:17 NKJV)  "There shall be no man in the tabernacle of meeting when he goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, that he may make atonement for himself, for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel. Our priority as priest must be first to make sure we are righteous before God, second to bring our family members into the Kingdom, and then to reach the lost world.
The priest must pursue righteousness from God. (Proverbs 21:21 NKJV)  He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness and honor. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are free to be righteous before our God, keeping our focus on Jesus Christ, our righteousness, our High Priest, and our example, we are transformed into His image. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NKJV)  Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. {18} But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. The word merciful is the Greek word eleemon, which means to be actively compassionate. Compassion is the kind of love that God is. This is the only beatitude where what you give is the same thing as the blessing that you receive. That is because there is no greater reward that God can give us than His compassion, His Love. Compassion is its own reward, an awesome blessing because compassion is the presence of God. Inside of God's compassion are His grace, His mercy, His forgiveness, His patience, His faithfulness, His loving kindness, and every other characteristic of God, and Love. Our God is the Father of all compassion, and we are the vessels of compassion that His love flows through.
When we feel compassion toward someone that is the presence of the Holy Spirit guiding us into actions of love toward that person or for that person. As a priest compassion is what leads us to intercede for a lost soul. Words spoken in compassion carry the anointing of the Holy Spirit, they penetrate to the heart of man and God. True intercession is always energized and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Compassion causes you to feel the pain and suffering of other people as if it was your own. Compassion is loving your neighbor as yourself. (Hebrews 2:17-18 NIV)  For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. {18} Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Compassion is love in action, it is giving to meet the needs of another person spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. What God gives us, the Holy Spirit urges us to give to others. When you first receive salvation you immediately have a desire to share it with others. If we give in love what we have God blesses us with more to give. (Proverbs 11:24-25 NIV)  One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. {25} A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. As we give, God gives to us, this is especially true as we give compassion (mercy) to others, when we do we are immediately rewarded with the presence of God's Holy Spirit flowing through us.
When we are interceding for a lost soul, or when we are praying for a brother or sister in the Kingdom, then we feel God's compassion flowing through us, because prayer and intercession are two of the most wonderful and beneficial gifts you can give anyone. Prayer and intercession can be done by any believer and should be done by every believer.
Every Christian that I know of has an inner desire to serve God and to reach the lost for Christ. But most are waiting for some great opportunity or another location to begin. But God has given every believer the ministry of prayer and intercession to change their world her and now. Prayer and intercession can take you into the depths of spiritual maturity and into awesome revelations of knowing God and experiencing His presence.

Resting in God's Love

(Hebrews 4:9-11 NKJV) There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. {10} For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. {11} Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

I believe that the key to entering into this rest is to know God, when you know God you trust God. Because when you know God you know His compassion for you, and you have faith (trust) in God because of it. Faith is the key to entering into the rest of God. The more faith the more trust the more rest.

(Hebrews 11:6 NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Only by faith can you come to God because you must believe He exists, and that He has compassion (love) for you. Without faith (trust) you reject Him since God is love you also reject His love.

LIFE BESET

Sometimes unknown to many
Smiles and happiness we show
Phantom fear, trials, and failures
But still in God we trust

Treacherously the journey be
Loopholes and traps they set
Crooked path He straightens
And yet in God we trust

Share between we lack
And yet love we duck
Hoping and yet hopeless
All in All God we trust

Twill-night we see approach
Dread of sleepless night reproach
Alone in bed we crawl
Talking to the God we trust

Toss and turn we do
Dreams and hopes redone
Tired, filled with sleep we wake
Journey we continue with the God we trust.

Amen

TITHING ---- BIBILICAL WAY

Tithing first appeared in the Bible when Abraham gave one-tenth of the spoils of war to Melchizedek, the priest-king of Salem ( Gen 14:18-20 ). The writer of Hebrews presumed that tithes were paid to a higher authority and inferred that there was a greater priesthood than Aaron's ( Hebrews 7:4 Hebrews 7:9 ). Tithing as a tribute to God appeared later in Genesis when Jacob promised to give a tenth to God if he returned home safely ( 28:22 ). But these tithes were spontaneous and no details were given.

The Book of Exodus required giving only first fruits ( Exodus 23:16 Exodus 23:19 ; 34:26 ) and is not clear whether the tithe later specified the percent of the total to be given as first fruits or was a separate gift. Sometimes first fruits and tithing appear to be identical ( Deut 26:1-14 ), other times separate ( Neh 12:44 ).

Tithes were awarded to the Levites for their priestly service because they would not receive land in Canaan ( Num 18:19-21 ). They, too, gave a tenth of what they received (v. 26).

If a person did not want to give what he produced he could give 120 percent of its value ( Lev 27:31 ). For livestock, however, there could be no substitute. Animals passed single file under a rod dipped in coloring and every tenth one was marked. Selecting inferior animals was prohibited (vv. 32-33).

Deuteronomy instructed households to bring their tithes to the sanctuary for a joyous sacrificial meal. If it was too far, the offer-er was told that the goods could be sold locally and the money used near the sanctuary to buy "anything you wish" including oxen, sheep, wine, or strong drink ( Deut 14:22-26 ).

Every third year tithes remained in the hometown and were given to the Levite, alien, orphan, and widow (vv. 28-29). The offer-er had to "say before the Lord" that the tithe had been properly given ( 26:13-14 ). Thus tithing taught the people to "revere the Lord" always ( 14:23 ), and supported the poor and the priests. Samuel later warned Israel that an earthly king (whom they desired against God's wishes) would require a tenth to sustain his rule ( 1 Samuel 8:15 1 Samuel 8:17 ).

The difference between instructions in Deuteronomy and Numbers led some rabbis to believe that there were two tithes each year, one for the Levite and one to be eaten before the Lord. Yet it is unlikely that the text would institute a second tithe the way it does, without introduction or clarification. Some also believed that the triennial tithe was additional, making a total of three tithes. But it is unlikely that the offerer would have to affirm that such tithe was given properly while saying nothing of the first, or primary tithe.

It is possible that there was only one tithe and that the differences in descriptions were due to changing circumstances. Numbers, written during the period of wandering, instructs the people to give their tithes to the Levites. Deuteronomy, written as Israel entered the land and began a more settled existence, required that tithes be eaten in the sanctuary (where the remaining portion was no doubt left). It seems every third year the tithe was given to the poor.

Tithing indicated Israel's devotion to God, and the people did not always give as they should. Withholding tithes and offerings was regarded as robbing God, but great prosperity was promised if they would obey ( Mal 3:8-12 ). When the people forsook worship of Yahweh their tithes went to idols ( Amos 4:4 ).

Hezekiah oversaw a restoration of obedience to God during which so much was given in tithes and offerings that rooms had to be prepared in the house of the Lord ( 2 Chron 31:10-11 ). Upon return from captivity Nehemiah led another restoration and made sure tithes and offerings were collected ( Neh 12:44 ) so the Levites would not have to work in the fields ( 13:10 ).

Jesus refocused attention on inward attitudes. He criticized some who went so far as to tithe tiny grains of spicenot because they tithed, but because they neglected the weightier matters of the law ( Matt 23:23 ). He regarded stewardship of finances as an indication of trustworthiness with spiritual things ( Luke 16:11 ), which were more important ( Matt 6:19-20 ).

Nowhere does the New Testament require Christians to tithe in the sense of giving 10 percent, but it does reiterate many things associated with tithing: those who minister are entitled to receive support ( 1 Cor 9:14 ); the poor and needy should be cared for ( 1 Cor 16:1 ; Gal 2:10 ); those who give can trust God, as the source of all that is given ( 2 Cor 9:10 ), to supply their needs ( 2 Cor 9:8 ; Php 4:19 ); and giving should be done joyously ( 2 Cor 9:7 ).

The New Testament directs that taxes be paid to the state ( Rom 13:6-7 ), which replaced Israel's theocracy. Paul's vocabulary and teaching suggest that giving is voluntary and that there is no set percentage. Following the example of Christ, who gave even his life ( 2 Cor 8:9 ), we should cheerfully give as much as we have decided ( 2 Cor 9:7 ) based on how much the Lord has prospered us ( 1 Cor 16:2 ), knowing that we reap in proportion to what we sow ( 2 Cor 9:6 ) and that we will ultimately give account for our deeds ( Rom 14:12 ).

Pro. 1:7 THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Pro. 1:7 THE FEAR OF THE LORD
Proverbs 2:1-5

Intro: Proverbs is in a section of the Bible known at "Wisdom Literature." The other books in this section are Job, Psalms, Ecclesiastes and The Song Of Solomon. The focus of these books is instruct men in the ways of the Lord and in His service and worship. The Book of Proverbs is a collection of teachings from Solomon to his son, showing the young man how to live his life in a manner that was pleasing to the Lord. I would say that we all need that kind of instruction, wouldn't you?

If there is a key verse that unlocks the power and purpose of this great book, it would be the verse that we have just read. If we are to learn wisdom and knowledge, it must begin with the fear of the Lord. This is a subject that isn't preached about much in our day, but it is still vital to the Christian's faith. We need to know what the fear of the Lord is all about.

This is a very vital line of thought in the Book of Proverbs as it is mentioned roughly 18 times in its pages. In all, the phrase can be found 27 times in the Bible. If so much emphasis is placed on fearing the Lord, then I believe that we need to know what it means and how we can go about doing it. Therefore, I would like to take a few minutes and preach from this book on The Fear Of The Lord. I believe that the Lord wants to teach us what this matter of fearing Him is all about. He wants you and me to grow in our relationship with Him and in our knowledge of Him and the way knowledge begins is with the fear of the Lord.

I. A DEFINITION OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

A. What does the phrase "the fear of the LORD" refer to? When we think of fear, we associate the word with terror. Webster's Dictionary defines fear as "a feeling of anxiety and agitation produced by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc." For many, this would describe the feeling you get when you see a snake, go to the doctor or dentist, or when you find yourself in a time of extreme danger. It is dread of the unknown. Surely, this is not the sensation the writer of Proverbs is referring to.
In our modern vernacular, the word fear, in the context in which it is used by Solomon, has been replaced with reverence, awe, great respect. What the writer of this book is saying is that we are to have a deep reverence and respect for the Lord. Literally, we are to be awed and humbled by His presence.
B. What, then, does it mean to fear the Lord? When we truly fear the Lord, we will recognize that He is the Creator and we are the creatures. He is the Master and we are the servants. He is the Father and we are the children. This attitude will manifest itself in our having a respect for God, His word and in our having a desire to do what He tells us to in His Bible. We can relate this kind of fear to that which a child has for his parents. If the right kind of fear is present, the child knows that his parents can hurt him if there is disobedience, but overriding that fear is the knowledge that disobedience hurts the parents and the child loves and respects his parents and does not want to hurt them. To put it simply, the fear of the Lord is a deep seated reverence for God that causes men to want to please Him at all costs.
(Ill. Genuine fear of the Lord is always seen in obedience to the Word of God, Pro. 8:13. People who do not walk in line with God's Word do not fear the Lord, regardless of what they profess with their lips. Therefore, when we fear the Lord, there is an elements of dread at what His wrath can do, but there is also such a respect for Him and for His will that nothing else matters but doing that which pleases the Lord.)
(Ill. Oswald Chambers, "The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.")
C. Would you describe your life as one lived in the fear of God? Does the dread of His wrath prompt you to holiness? Does respect for Him and for His will propel you toward obedience and godliness? We need to fear of the Lord in our lives!

I. A Definition Of The Fear Of The Lord

II. A DIVIDENDS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

(Ill. According to this book, the fear of the Lord will produce certain benefits in your life and mine. When we fear the Lord, we will find certain things to be true.)

A. 1:7; 9:10; 15:33 - It Is The Beginning Of Wisdom
Prov 1:7, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Prov 9:10, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
Prov 15:33, "The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility."
(Ill. The best place to begin the search for true wisdom is in the fear of the Lord. True fear of the Lord is born out of a knowledge of how infinitely powerful, majestic and full of goodness God is. Before one can grow in the Lord, he must first learn to fear Him.)
B. 3:7; 16:6 - It Motivates People To Holiness
Prov 3:7, "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil."
Prov 16:6, "By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil."
(Ill. These verse tell us that the fear of the Lord promotes holy living. The person who truly reverences and respects the Lord as he should will not do anything that brings disgrace, dishonor or pain to the heart of the Lord. People who genuinely fear the Lord will flee from evil. The prospect of causing the Lord pain will be too great to bear!)
(Ill. Job is a great example of what the fear of the Lord will produce in your life, Job 1:8)
C. 10:27 - It Prolongs Life -
Prov 10:27, "The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened."
(Ill. This is not a blanket promise because any number of things can happen along the road of life that can take us out of here in an instant. However, generally speaking, those who live in the fear of the Lord are more likely to live to a good old age than those who live for the flesh and the world.)
(Ill. approximately 60% of human illnesses can be traced directly or indirectly to fear, sorrow, envy, resentment, guilt, hatred, or to any number of emotional stresses. Add to that the awful pain caused by alcohol (cirrhosis of the liver), tobacco, (emphysema, cancer, heart disease), and immorality, (venereal diseases and AIDS), we can see that a life lived in the fear of the Lord with obedience to His Word will result in a much healthier existence.)
D. 14:26 - It Produces A Sense Of Security -
Prov 14:26, "In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge."
(Ill. When we are walking in the fear of the Lord, we can have confidence that God is on our side. Notice Romans 8:31, "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" The person who is walking in the fear of the Lord and is living by the Book will have fewer feelings of insecurity, abandonment and fear. There will be far fewer times when salvation is doubted. The fear of the Lord produces a strong sense of security and close fellowship with the Father. This is a blessed benefit!)
E. 14:27 - It Produces Life -
Prov 14:27, "The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death."
(Ill. When we walk in the fear of the Lord, we are stronger spiritually than we could be otherwise. The fear of the Lord is like a fountain that continually springs up with spiritual vitality and strength. This enables the Christian to walk cleaner and closer thus avoiding the temptations and traps of the devil.)
F. 15:16 - It Makes All Of Life Better -
Prov 15:16, "Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith."
(Ill. This verse teaches us that it is better to have limited resources and be in the will of God than it is to have plenty and the trouble that comes along with it. The bottom line here is this, when you are in the Lord's will, and when you are walking in His fear, then your care is His responsibility, Matt. 6:25-33; Phil. 4:19. The life filled with "things" and riches is a trouble filled life. The life lived in faith and in the fear of God is literally carefree.)
G. 19:23 - It Produces Satisfaction And Safety -
Prov 19:23, "The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil."
(Ill. The person who lives in the fear of God will be a satisfied person. They will have one goal in live, pleasing the Lord, and it will have been met. Therefore, they will have all their needs met and they will be happy. When we must have other stuff to make us happy, we never will be! When we learn to be satisfied with the Lord and with the privilege of walking in His fear, we will be permanently satisfied. Nothing will matter but the smile of God and it will be upon our lives. Notice, this verse says that this kind of person will not be visited with evil. The person who walks in the genuine fear of the Lord need never fear going to Hell, he need never fear many of the things that beset the world around him. By his walk in the fear of the Lord, he brings the smile and the hedge of God into his life, Job 1:10.)
H. 22:4 - It Brings Great Blessings -
Prov 22:4, "By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life."
(Ill. The person who chooses to walk in the fear of the Lord can rest assured that this decision will bring great blessings into his life. There will be spiritual riches beyond belief, (peace, joy, hope, security, the promises of God, the presence of God, etc.), there will be honor from the Lord, and there will be abundant life, John 10:10. The fear of the Lord, produces the greatest possible life that any person can ever live. There is no better life upon this earth than a life lived in the will of the Lord!)

I. A Definition Of The Fear Of The Lord

II. The Dividends Of The Fear Of The Lord

III. A DECISION RELATED TO THE FEAR OF THE LORD

A. To put it very simply, walking in the fear of the Lord is going to have to be your individual decision. No one can make you do, no one can do it for you. The decision to live a life that is ordered around a holy, reverential respect for God is a decision that you must make for yourself. Al I can do is tell you that deciding to walk in the fear of the Lord will produce a better life down here and will result in a life greatly blessed by the Lord. A decision to live outside the fear of the Lord, that is, living as you please and for yourself, will bring not the blessings of God, but His judgment to bear in your life. If you are saved, you will never be able to get away with sin, Rev. 3:19.
B. A life lived in the fear of the Lord will tell on you. If you fear Him, then you will want to honor him in everything. He will come first and His will will be paramount in your life. It is easy to see those who walk in the fear of the Lord. His House is a priority, prayer and the Scriptures are priorities, everything God says in His Word take priority and precedent over one's personal will and desires. The Lord's way becomes the only way.
C. By the same token, a life lived outside the fear of God is easy to pick out as well. The things of God will be secondary. Other matters will consistently be placed ahead of the Lord and His will and His work. This kind of life is usually filled with trouble and trial. There is more heartache and disaster in a life lived outside the fear of the Lord. This is not the way God intended the Christian life to be lived!

Conc: Do you understand the fear of the Lord any better? I trust that you do and that you have allowed the Holy Spirit the opportunity to speak to your heart and that now, you will do what the Lord has told you to do. If you know that you are not walking in the fear of the Lord as you should, then I invite you to come to this altar and deal with that need this evening. The Lord help us all to walk in a reverential awe of Him, His greatness and His glory. May His people always be a people who fear the Lord and prove it by living by His Word!
Well Proverbs 2:1-5 puts it best. It reads:
  • 1  My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you;
  • 2  So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;
  • 3  Yea, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding;
  • 4  If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures;
  • 5  Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Verse 1 is really receiving His word which can be found in scripture. God in the scriptures is speaking to us and He wants us to bring it into our hearts so that we can keep it with us always. To do this we must listen and apply what we learn into our lives. It isn’t enough to understand but we must do as well.
Verses 3, 4 and 5 are really saying we should pray for wisdom to understand the word. Then we must seek His wisdom in scripture just like we would be looking for hidden treasure if we had a map. The Bible is our map and we need to use it and understand what God is saying to us. Once we do this we will understand the fear of the Lord.
To sum up what we need to do to learn to fear the Lord we must receive His words and keep His commandments in our hearts. We must listen for His wisdom in scripture and apply it to our lives. To do this we must pray for wisdom and  understanding, we must seek like we are looking for hidden treasure the nuggets that are in the Bible and then we shall come to fear (respect/revere) the Lord appropriately.
Through this process it isn’t our own understanding that brings us to fear the Lord it is through the Holy Spirit that we do so. And it is through the Spirit’s power and understanding that will take us to know and to put on the Lord’s righteousness. It will be through the fear of him that will keep us on the path, preserving us and protecting us from the evils of men that would want to lead us astray.
I cannot improve on the following verses because they are rather clear. But what I can do is tell you what is the question that these verses answer; how does fearing the Lord change us?  I’ll end here but really contemplate this message as a whole it will change your life.
The two verses that are the answers to the question are:
  • Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

  • Isaiah 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.
  • Confidence, Trust & Hope

    CONFIDENCE  :
    Once all village people
decided to pray for rain. On
the day of prayer all people
gathered and only one boy came
    with an umbrella...... that's
    Confidence...

    TRUST:
    Trust should be like the
feeling of a one year old baby
    when you throw him in the air;
    he laughs.....because he knows
    you will catch
    him........ That's
    Trust............

    HOPE:

Every night we go to bed, we
have no assurance to get up
alive in the next morning but
still we have plans for the
    coming day..........that's

    Hope..........

    Have a wonderful day!
